Susana Myrta Ruiz Cerutti (born 18 November 1940) is a lawyer, diplomat and Argentinian politician, who occupied the charge of Minister of External Relations, International and Literate Trade - Chancellor, during the presidency of Raúl Alfonsín, from 26 May to 8 July 1989. This made her become the first woman in Argentina's history to reach the post of chancellor.〔(Biografía -Fundación Konex )〕〔 Inside the Argentinian chancellery she also served as Vicanciller of 1987 until 1989, when she assumed as Chancellor in replacement of Dante Caputo, and later other charges in that; in her diplomatic career, besides, was Argentinian Ambassador in Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Canada.〔(Un ascenso para la ex canciller ), ''Clarín'', 10 de noviembre del 2000.〕 == Biography == She graduated in law from the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), she practiced her profession until her entry in the Institute of the External Service of the Nation. She graduated from that institution in 1968 with gold medal and diploma of honor.〔 Between the years 1972 and 1985 she participated and drove several of the missions, that by means of the mediation papal, attained to resolve the conflict of the channel of Beagle. She was Argentina Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN ) and the Organization of American States ( OAS) and represented Argentina in other organizations.〔(La diplomacia, también con mirada femenina ), ''Clarín'', 4 de noviembre de 2005.〕 In addition she worked as director of the Argentinian delegation in the negotiations of the Dispute of the lagoon of the Desert with Chile; by her work obtained ''Cruz Pro Eclesia et Pontifice'' and with the ''Order of Saint Gregorio Magno'' awarded by the pope John Paul II.〔〔(''Boundary dispute between Argentina and Chile concerning the frontier line between boundary post 62 and Mount Fitzroy'' )〕 After serving as legal advisor to Argentina's Foreign Ministry, she was named Secretary of State of the Ministry of External Relations (Deputy Foreign Minister) in 1987, a position she left in May 1989 when she took ownership of the Foreign Ministry, appointed by President Raúl Alfonsín, in replacement of Dante Caputo. She served six weeks, until the assumption of Carlos Menem, the one who appointed to Sunday Cavallo as successor, on 9 July of that year.〔 Later she returned to the post of Secretary of State, until she was named Ambassador from Argentina to Switzerland, and as such were accepted her credentials in Liechtenstein, in 1991. Later she was appointed Ambassador to Canada from 1998 to 1999. Between 1999 and 2000 it was Special Representative for of Subjects of the Falkland Islands and islands of the Atlantic South in the rank of ambassador.〔 In November 2000, she was appointed Secretary for Foreign Policy, replacing Enrique Candioti, during the presidency of Fernando Of the Rúa.〔 She was appointed in 2001, Legal Adviser to the Foreign Office, a position she holds today .
